I just faced the exact problem that you're describing. My SS hose just burst open at the track yesterday. I figured it was the cheap crimp connector b/c it looks like it simply slid out of the metal housing. I wasn't doing anything particularly crazy, just normal (track) braking and it was a rather hot day (+27C).

I'm looking for a replacement hose and stumbled upon your article. Thanks for the info, i'll look for the Aero-grade fittings.
